Bullies and Brats in Indian Wells

A city manager holds his breath and threatens to turn blue..a councilman gets his $90,000 car washed by taxpayers and some residents of the most affluent city in the Valley aren't happy.

Are the elected officials who run the Indian Wells city government really just street cons in Brooks Brothers clothes? Is recently resigned city manager Greg Johnson a bully or a whiny brat?

Here are the facts: Johnson got his panties in a wad when
citizen banker Haddon Libby challenged Johnson’s compensation during a public meeting. Johnson’s apparently thin skin got thinner and he whined to Libby’s bosses. Libby was canned. The biggies at the bank said several days after the firing and well after “Banker-Gate” became public that Libby didn’t meet performance goals. If you believe that then you believe pigs can fly.

Speaking of pigs..Mayor Pro Tem Bill Powers said “I didn't think much about it.”
when p.o’d residents asked if he got his 90-plus thousand dollar luxury
Mercedes washed on the taxpayers dime. Mr. Powers, you live in a city with the
16th highest per capita income (more than $76,000) in the state, you
retired from a banking career that paid you well, well, well into 6 figures with a retirement package that could probably buy several hundred Brooks Brothers suits, you make more than 50-thousand dollars in salary alone as a part-time councilman and you “didn’t think much” about using tax dollars to wash your ride?

Sure the washes only totaled 700 bucks give or take a few hundred
depending on whose figures you believe…but it’s the principle of the thing
isn’t it? Thomas Jefferson said in 1807: “I have the consolation
of having added nothing to my private fortune during my public service, and of
retiring with hands clean as they are empty”.

Public service. Serving the public. Serving.

The latest chapter of the Indian Wells saga had Johnson resigning as city manager. He made upwards of $200,000 a year so maybe he can find a way to SERVE the public for awhile. No whining Greg while you look for another city job somewhere OK? And Mr. Powers, if you decide to cycle though that wardrobe of Brooks Brothers suits, I know a few deserving men at a few local rehab centers who could use your old threads when they go out and look for jobs.
