On Tuesday when I stopped by the media center at the Humana Challenge to get my credentials for the week I was given a pedometer, a gift from Humana. I noticed mostly everyone wearing theirs and found out there was a contest for the media regarding steps taken for the week. With little interest in this, I brought the pedometer home to mess with it later.
After spending Friday at the event, I talked to several people who wear a pedometer every day, yes EVERY DAY! Huh! I thought to myself I walk all day long, and I'm sure I walk miles and miles..however my curiosity was peaked.Once I was home I took the meter out of its plastic wrap, pushed a few buttons, found the mile by steps count, thought about it....and decided to wear it all day on Saturday so I could commend myself for all the steps I take.
I researched and discovered that depending on ones stride the average steps needed for one mile is 1760 to 2640 steps...no problem...With pedometer in place, I started my day...television station, store, laundry, to the mail box...WHAT!! I've only had 560 steps....off I went, here there, still no 1,000...so I hopped on the bike and rode my daily eight miles..and pondered the fact that there are a lot of people out there that assume they walk many miles each day, and in reality, they have not even walked a mile..yet we continue to eat.

Thanks to Humana I'm wearing my pedometer every day from morning until I ride my stationary bike in the evening..I'm keeping track of my daily steps and will find out what it takes to get to 10,000 a day (same as walking 18 holes from the back tees).......How many steps are you taking??
