Helping Military Wives One Gown at a Time

Desert Best Friend’s Closet will open its doors to military wives starting today in Palm Desert.

“From our perspective it’s a lot of fun,’’ owner Connie Golds said. “They have to go to a ball every year. Most of them are very, very young. The women need to have fun.”

The free event -- which requires an appointment -- is set for Oct. 14-16 and October 21-23, she said.

Golds said she is taking appointments from 9 a.m. to 5 pm. on Fridays and Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

“We have an agreement with the base,” Golds said, adding that 80 women have signed up already.
