Palm Desert Looking for Art Guides Around Town

Palm Desert officials are looking for volunteers to lead walking tours of the city's public art, a city spokesman said Wednesday.

Tours are available one Saturday per month from September through May, and other days on private request. Stops include sculptures on El Paseo and in Civic Center Park and the Palm Desert Public Library, Palm Desert city spokesman David Hermann said.

Volunteers don't have to be Palm Desert residents. Experience or study in the arts is preferred.

Volunteers get three months of training, with classes meeting on selected Tuesdays between Oct. 29 and Jan. 28.

After training, volunteers commit, on average, up to four hours a month for at least a year, Hermann said.
