U.S. Postal Service To Hold Food Drive Saturday

Riverside County residents were asked to leave a bag of non-perishable foods by their mailboxes.

The U.S. Postal Service will pick up non-perishable food donations left at mailboxes Saturday across Riverside County.

Letter carriers in the San Diego Postal District, which includes Riverside, San Diego, San Bernardino, Imperial and Inyo counties, will participate in the 19th annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive.

Last year, the district collected more than 958,000 pounds of food, according to Eva Jackson, a USPS spokeswoman.

Nationwide, the postal service collected 77 million pounds of food in 2010, she said.

Participants were asked to leave non-perishable food in a bag by their mailbox on Saturday.
