Expect More Muggy Heat Thru Saturday, Forecasters Advise

Residents of Palm Desert and the rest of the Coachella Valley can expect more muggy heat through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

"Hot and humid weather will continue today across our region," National Weather Service forecasters in San Diego said in a statement Thursday morning.

"Temperatures will exceed 100 degrees across the valleys and deserts, and exceed 90 degrees not far from the beaches. Humidity will continue higher than usual, adding to the challenge to keep cool. A few thunderstorms will erupt during the afternoon mainly in the mountains and high desert. Where they develop, localized flash flooding may result."

The humidity and heat are resulting in part from high pressure dominating the weather over Southern California, according to the Weather Service.

High temps across the mountains and deserts are expected above normal but afternoon cloud cover, showers and thunderstorms could mitigate afternoon high temps, according to the Weather Service.

"Needless to say . . . summer is not over . . . as these hot and muggy conditions continue to prevail across the Southland," the Weather Service advised in a special weather statement. "Those sensitive to the heat are encouraged to take precautions.

Anyone planning outdoor activities should be prepared for the heat, drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day.
