Locations Near Coachella Valley Among Highest Rainfall, Wind Gusts Recorded During First Winter Season Storm

Poppet Flats in the mountains southwest of Palm Desert received 1.77 inches of rain during the 24 hours that ended at 10 a.m. Thursday Oct. 10, placing in the top three rainfall totals for Southern California's first winter storm this season, according to the National Weather Service.

Further south on Highway 243, Pine Cove received 5 inches of snow, placing in the top three for snowfall during the storm that moved through the San Gorgonio Pass region Wednesday.

In the east Pass area, Whitewater was among the top three windiest locations measured in Southern California from Tuesday night to Wednesday night, with gusts to 60 miles per hour, according to the Weather Service.

The strongest winds occurred in the northern Coachella Valley and on the desert slopes of the San Diego County mountains, NWS officials said.
