National Weather Service Websites Remain Live Despite Government Shutdown

National Weather Service offices and websites that serve the Coachella Valley are remaining open in spite of the federal government shutdown.

A message posted Thursday on www.wrh.noaa.gov/sgx/ states:

Due to the Federal Government shutdown, NOAA.gov and most associated web sites are unavailable. However, because the information this site provides is necessary to protect life and property, it will be updated and maintained during the Federal Government shutdown.

Weather Service offices nationwide will remain staffed through the shutdown, Noel Isla, a senior meteorologist in San Diego, said Thursday in a phone interview.

Santa Ana winds and dry conditions are still expected in and near the Coachella Valley area Friday through Sunday, according to the Weather Service. As of Thursday afternoon, the following Weather Service warnings were in effect for the area:
