City Offers Free Guided Tours of El Paseo Invitational Exhibition Artworks
City of Palm Desert officials are offering a free guided walking tour of sculpted artwork featured in the El Paseo Invitational Exhibition on Saturday Nov. 9.
"Anyone interested in an up-close and informative look at highlighted sculptures of the 2013/2014 Exhibition can meet the tour guide at the northwest corner of El Paseo and Portola Avenue at 10 a.m.," city spokesman David Hermann said in an announcement.
The 18 artworks in the exhibition were selected by members of Palm Desert's Art in Public Places Commission, from among scores of artists who submitted their work for consideration, Hermann said.
"The Exhibition includes works from local Coachella Valley artists as well sculptures created by international artists from Canada and Israel," Hermann said.
The exhibition also includes a work by a Hollywood star – 'Handstand' created by actor Daniel Stern, who appeared in City Slickers, Diner, and Home Alone, and was the voice on the Wonder Years, Hermann said.
"Held monthly on selected Saturdays from September through May, the one-hour docent-guided tours provide interesting facts and insight into Palm Desert's renowned public art collection," Hermann said. "Reservations are not required. Wear comfortable shoes and come prepared to enjoy and learn."
