'Gen Silent' Documentary About Older LGBT Community Screening Saturday

Cal State San Bernardino's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute will host a screening Saturday in Palm Desert of a documentary about older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

"Gen Silent" will be shown at 9 a.m. Nov. 9 in Oliphant Auditorium at Cal State San Bernardino's Palm Desert campus. Breakfast will be served beforehand and a panel discussion will follow the free screening, according to campus spokesman Mike Singer.

"Gen Silent," by documentary filmmaker Stu Maddux, follows how oppression before the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York affects older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people by making them afraid of discrimination.

It shows a "wide range" in the quality of their paid caregiving, and how some
people are working to help them, according to the documentary's website.

The screening and panel are presented with Cal State San Bernardino's Center on Aging and the LGBT Center of the Desert. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is a program of Cal State's College of Extended Learning.

To make a reservation, call (760) 341-2883, ext. 78121, email jsterlin@csusb.edu or go to http://cel.csusb.edu.
