No Drivers Caught DUI in Rancho Mirage Checkpoint

Though no drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, five people were taken into custody for not having a license.

A holiday weekend DUI/driver's license checkpoint in Rancho Mirage didn't produce and DUI arrests, but six people were arrested of other offenses, police reported.

Of the 582 people who passed through the operation Saturday night on Bob Hope Drive, north of Via Marta, no drivers were arrested for driving under the influence, according to a sheriff's department statement, who added that 12 field sobriety tests were conducted.

However, one person who had an active warrant for a previous DUI conviction was nabbed, according to the statement.

Another five drivers were arrested for driving while unlicensed or suspended and three vehicles were towed, according to the department.

Funding for the operation was provided via state and federal grants.
