Fireworks Display Planned for July 4 at Civic Center Park

Palm Desert is throwing an Independence Day celebration featuring a free community concert, followed by fireworks.

The following is a press release from the city of Palm Desert: 

The City of Palm Desert will throw a party in honor of America’s birthday on Thursday, July 4, with a free Independence Day celebration featuring music, fireworks, and more at Civic Center Park

The fun kicks off at 7:30 p.m. with the Swing Cats Big Band, who will delight listeners with live popular big band and swing favorites as well as a selection of patriotic tunes in keeping with the day’s theme. After the concert, the nighttime sky will light up at 9 p.m. with a spectacular 20-minute-long fireworks display accompanied by synchronized music on The Mix 100.5 FM.

Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic dinners, blankets, and chairs to enjoy the show. Drinks and snacks will also be available for purchase at the Park and at the neighboring Palm Desert Aquatic Center.

Alcoholic beverages, smoking, and portable barbeques are prohibited. Private fireworks are illegal in Civic Center Park and throughout the City of Palm Desert.  Flashlights are recommended for safety exiting the park.

A special welcome is extended to Rancho Mirage residents. The City of Rancho Mirage provided assistance to the City of Palm Desert to help defray the cost of the celebration.

Civic Center Park is located at 73510 Fred Waring Drive. Vehicles are encouraged to access the park via Fred Waring and San Pablo Avenue. Road closures around the park are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and private vehicles will not be allowed into the park once parking lots are full. 

To protect public safety during the holiday celebration in the unusually busy park, golf carts will not be allowed to operate inside park grounds on July 4, 2013.

For the convenience and comfort of attendees, free, air-conditioned shuttle service from The Gardens on El Paseo to the park begins at 6 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. For more information, please call 760-346-0611, ext. 416.
